Canadian-American actress Catie Shelley is known for her stratospheric coloratura and effervescent stage presence. Ms. Shelley has made an international career performing across Canada and the United States. This season, Catie returns to the role of Glinda in The Wizard of Oz with Vital Theatre Company.

Ms. Shelley previously reprised the role of Glinda in The Wizard of Oz, as well as the role of Mrs. Pinkerton in Pinkalicious, with Vital Theatre Company. After returning from the national tours of Pinkalicious and Flight School the Musical, she joined the cast of New York City Opera’s production of Stonewall, and performed the role of Valencienne in The Merry Widow with St. Petersburg Opera. Additionally, Catie performed in the premiere performance of Broadway Around the World at Green Room 42 and made her début at 54 Below.

Off-Broadway and regional credits include Miss Dorothy Brown in Thoroughly Modern Millie with St. Mark’s Basking Ridge, Cora in Little Mary Sunshine and Whoopee with Musicals Tonight/Theatre Row and Trudy in Hollywood! Hollywood! With Write Act Repertory. A true crossover artist, Catie performs a variety of operatic repertoire; career highlights include the role of Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute with Halifax Opera Festival and Opera New Jersey, Phyllis in Iolanthe with Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Nova Scotia, Cupid in Orpheus in the Underworld at St. Mark’s Basking Ridge, Marie in The Daughter of the Regiment at Lang Recital Hall, Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at Black Box Theatre, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, and Greta in Street Scene at Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

 As a concert artist, Ms. Shelley has performed at venues such as The National Opera Center, Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, Imperial Theatre with Symphony New Brunswick and the Saint John String Quartet, Green Room 42, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and the McCarter Theatre. Highlights include Alliance of Alien Artists’ concert Broadway Around the World, Skyline Theatre Company’s Singing Through the Holidays, New Jersey State Opera’s Always Love concert, Opera New Jersey’s Rodgers & Hammerstein Tunes and Opera Nova Scotia’s concert entitled Opera Valentine

Ms. Shelley has begun to make a name for herself in the television and commercial world having performed in major television network shows such as Lifetime’s I Killed My BFF. Additionally, she played the role of Virginia in Beyond the Horizon directed by Allison Friedman. 

Catie earned a Bachelor of Vocal Performance from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia and an Artist Diploma with a concentration in Opera from the John J Cali School of Music. She attended New York University Steinhardt earning a Master of Music in Vocal Performance with a concentration in Music Theatre. She performed as a studio artist with renowned Young Artist Programs such as Opera New Jersey and the Halifax Opera Festival.
