
Richard Sabellico
Richard Sabellico is a well-established stage director and playwright, with over 35 years of experience at prestigious theatres across the country and on Broadway. He has been recognized for his work on and off Broadway, with multiple Drama Desk award nominations and an Outer Critics Choice nomination.
Richard started his career as an actor, appearing in 7 Broadway shows, most notably as Rooster Hannigan in Annie, Pasty in Angela Lansbury’s Gypsy, Manny in The Magic Show, Capt. Hennessy in Dames At Sea. He also had the pleasure of playing opposite Mitzi Gaynor in the National Tour of Lincoln Center’s Anything Goes.

In New York City, Richard directed Wonderful Town at New York City Opera, The Cocoanuts at American Place Theatre, A Majority of One at Playhouse 91 (Drama Desk Nomination), The Home Of The Brave at Playhouse 91, I Can Get It For You Wholesale (Drama Desk Award), Rags , and Milk and Honey at American Jewish Theatre, and was associate director to Arthur Laurents on the Broadway revival of Gypsy starring Tyne Daly. National Tours include State Fair w/John Davidson, the 35th Anniversary Tour of The Music Man, and Dial M for Murder with Juliet Mills and Maxwell Caulfield. Richard has worked at major theatres throughout the country, such as Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Bay Street Theatre, Goodspeed Opera, Ogunquit Playhouse, and North Shore Music Theatre. In addition, he has written and/or doctored a sizable amount of produced properties as well as teaching a long running class; “Audition Therapy for the Musical Theatre.”
Mr. Sabellico can be seen as himself in the film Pittsburgh starring Jeff Goldblum, available on Netflix. He also served as Associate Artistic Director at both American Jewish Theatre and Jewish Rep Theatre. Richard is currently working on a musical about the making of I Love Lucy and an adaption of Ethel Merman’s life called Merman, which recently had a reading starring Beth Leavel.
