Daniel “Shelly” Verschelden is an actor, singer and songwriter from Kansas City, Missouri. In May 2020, Shelly graduated from Montclair State University with a BFA in Musical Theatre. While at Montclair State University Shelly worked on his acting, voice, and dance skills with a variety of professors. Upcoming, he will be performing in the first national tour of An Officer and A Gentleman as Ruddiger.

Theatrically, Shelly has worked on a wide range of performances. He portrayed Andy Bernard from A Day in the Office at 54 Below in New York City. He also played Otto in Spring Awakening at Home Grown Theatre Company directed by Hersh Ellis, Jesus in Reefer Madness at Life Hall Studio Theatre directed by Stephen Agosto, and Dr. Scott in The Rocky Horror Show at Weitzenhoffer Theatre directed by Richard J. Hinds. Shelly’s fun personality and professionalism has led him to collaborate with Director Sarah Crawford on multiple occasions. Together, he played Richart Becker in Whos Your Baghdaddy? at Unicorn Theatre, Cousin Kevin in The Whos Tommy at Musical Theater Heritage, and Simon in Jesus Christ Superstar at Musical Theater Heritage.

He has also worked twice with Director Clay James as Eli Whitney in Anything Goes at the Alexander Kasser Theatre and Dave Bukatinsky in The Full Monty at Memorial Auditorium.

Shelly is strongly passionate about the music he writes and produces. He has released two albums entitled When You See Your Sun Rise produced by Tanner Qualls Production and This Is Gonna Be a Good Day which he self-produced. As a talented trained musical artist Shelly plays the guitar, mandolin, and piano. He has used his guitar skills to play in Daddy Long Legs at the Spinning Tree Theatre and in Spring Awakening at the Home Grown Theatre Company.

Shelly has also used his musical skills as a Music Director in Seussical with Immeasurable Productions directed by Mindy Moritz and The Drowsy Chaperone at Faust Theatre directed by Lily Nicholas.
