BIOGRAPHY

Accomplished actress, singer-songwriter, performer, and producer, DeQuina Moore is a force of nature. This captivating artist and Houston, TX native is a natural born septuple-threat with the passion, drive, beauty, poise, and personality of a superstar. Last season, she performed as Glinda/ Auntie Em in The Wiz at Fulton Theatre and appeared in the guest star role as stripper Cinnamon in Diarra from Detroit. Currently, she is on tour with Norwegian Cruise Lines in the title role of Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.


Recently, DeQuina received rave reviews in the role of Shug Avery in The Color Purple at Maine State Music Theatre. She brought “the Queen Honeybee back to the hive and every man, woman, and breathing thing in her sphere wants her, or worships her from afar. Moore sold every song…and left that lingering memory of her vibrant presence each time she made an exit” (Wiscasset Newspaper).


DeQuina is most known for her starring roles including originating Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors on Broadway and originating the role of Pilar Legally Blonde on Broadway. She’s performed in multiple other productions including Josephine Baker in Josephine Tonight, Shakespeare in the Park’s Two Gentlemen of Verona, Hair, Happy Days the Musical, Beehive, and starred in the Broadway National Tour of Flashdance the Musical, as Kiki: “…the sassy, sexy, savvy waitress by day/flashdancer by night!” She’s also performed as Rachel Marron, Nickie Marron, & Featured Ensemble/Karaoke Girl in The Bodyguard National Tour.


DeQuina is well-versed in holding the stage in her one woman shows having perfromed three one-woman shows almost consecutively. She perfromed Billie Holiday in Lady Day At Emerson’s Bar and Grill about which the Houston Press said “DeQuina Moore…gets the off-beat phrasing, that whiskey infused rasp, that throaty vibrato which are Holiday’s signature style. When you hear ‘Strange Fruit’ or ‘God Bless The Child’, you hear Holiday roar into life.” Moore brought audiences and entertainment news reviewers to their feet with her portrayal of Lauren Anderson, the first black professional company-hired ballerina, in the highly lauded Plumshuga at STAGES Houston. Additionally, her talents were further employed in her third 1-woman production, Houston for the Holidays, where she offered her favorite holiday songs cabaret style.


DeQuina has landed numerous national/ international commercials, voice-overs, and print ads with companies such as Coca-Cola, Payless, Bank of America and many more. On the small screen, she has secured starring roles on majors like Law & Order: SVU, Lifetime’s Racing for Time, NBC’s Third Watch, and more. On the big screen, she played the leading role of Devonne in Joyful Noise, sharing the screen with superstars Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton. Her film career includes the movies Madea’s Big Happy Family, The Last New Yorker, Ghost Town, Rachel Getting Married, Camp, and more. She recently filmed a recurring role on a new TV series: 5th Ward and she booked the role of Janice in an upcoming Lifetime Original Movie Lust, starring Keri Hilson and Tank.
