BIOGRAPHY
Composer B.E. (Brittney Elizabeth) Boykin is a native of Alexandria, Virginia. Captivated by music from a young age, she began her classical studies at the age of seven and never looked back. Boykin has been commissioned by and has collaborated with multiple organizations, including several ACDA divisions, Minnesota Opera, and the Kennedy Center.
Last season, her song cycle, 26 Ways of Looking at a Black Man, received performances by the acclaimed recital duo of Sidney Outlaw and Warren Jones both at Merola Opera and the US Embassy in the Republic of Chad. After premiering Boykin’s song cycle Moments in Sonder, Finger Lakes Opera commissioned her to write her first opera, Two Corners, with librettist Jarrod Lee. Following a successful workshop, the highly anticipated world premiere of this piece is soon to be announced.
