A Covid-era conversation with soprano and advocate Karen Slack planted the seed that has grown into the composer collective known as the Blacknificent 7, bursting onto the scene in collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

The composer collective, made up of Jessie Montgomery (Chicago Symphony’s Mead composer-in-residence), Shawn E. Okpebholo, Damien Geter, Dave Ragland, Joel Thompson, Jasmine Barnes, and Carlos Simon, will present their inaugural concert on December 3rd as part of CSO's MusicNOW Series.
